reunion of 5

yesterday, i went to janyn's house to pick her up. after 15 minutes, sadek came. then we went to raisa's house to pick her, darell and renz -raisa's cousin-. we went to the mall and went to Virgin Megastore. i saw the latest book of Harry Potter -Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince-. it looks interesting for me even though i'm not that much addicted to HP. anyway, we then walked to Dunkin and we ate there. after, we went back down the second floor and we saw our former english teacher, sir robert ison... hehehe. still the same... we went out of the mall and went to Splash. then to Hardees. and home atlast. hehehehe.

i was watching Fantastic Four before i slept. we use to compare ourselves with the characters of Fantastic Four. i am Mr. Fantastic, Janyn is the Invisible Woman, Sadek is the Human Torch and Darell is The Thing. hehehe. one great movie. a must see. if you like x-men and x2, go for it. you'll love it. hehehe.

i hate the fact that i missed the episode of amazing race yesterday. but i love the fact that i saw my friends yesterday especially those who i miss. hehehe.

i would like to thank Janyn for the wallet she gave me.

a giant leap for mankind?

as i was surfing the net, i found these oratorical speech... the speech i performed in an academic contest. it has an enlightening message...

"Do not go where the path leads," a wise man said, "rather, go where there is no path and blaze a trail."

Ladies and gentlemen, a revisit of the past, from the Stone Age to what you and I now call the Cyber Age would affirm that there is no gainsaying to the fact that the life and existence of man have remarkably progressed. From a simple and quiet life, man's existence has dramatically taken leaps and bounds and metamorphosed to one characterized by sophistication and modern gadgets. However, amidst these radical changes, we cannot close our eyes to the naked truth that the existence of mankind today is menacingly threatened by myriad global ills and challenges.

The cries of the innocent lives claimed by the appalling September 11 terrorist attack on America's famed Twin Towers continue to echo in many parts of the global village. The cruelty and atrociousness of war and the horror of the crimes of genocide and against humanity send shiver, fear and terror in every peace-loving nation. Recent developments in the field of genetic engineering such as human cloning pose a profoundly disquieting affront on human dignity. Serious havoc has been wreaked to our land and sea and to the world's flora and fauna. Climactic change is now felt in many parts of the world with the advent of global warming. The Earth's resources are dwindling fast. Lush forests and green mountains are getting bare, bald and brown. Clear waters and blue skies are becoming murky and black. Poverty and hunger have hit other areas of the global community. The rising criminality rate has broken the peace, safety and security of our homes. Rampant drug abuse is slowly disintegrating family ties. Sex and violence bombarded by print and broadcast media including the Internet continuously pollute the minds of the young.

My friends, indeed, man's progress over the past years has been amazing. As Martin Luther King, Jr. observed, man's ingenuity has been able to dwarf distance and place time in chains. Truly, with sophisticated satellite equipment launched in space, our mode of communication has been made clearer and swifter that it's possible now to send messages in microseconds to a recipient who lives in the opposite side of the globe. Travelling now has also been made faster and better that one can eat his breakfast in Manila and take supper abroad. With the birth of computers, man feels more comfortable and convenient in his home, work place, hospitals, schools and even in recreational houses. The slow and complex method of accomplishing things is now a shadow of the past. The word "instant" has gained a common usage and popularity in this modern age.

On the other side, what has all these tremendous growth and discoveries triggered on mankind? Justice Josue Bellosillo of the Philippine Supreme Court, noted in one of his speeches that transformational forces such as novel philosophies and dogmas are already making their presence felt, and ominously dictating and directing which way men and women and institutions would head for. He described it as a hazy picture on the canvass of man's future; its contours dark and murky - an indefinable montage of possible transitions that we may not be ready yet to accept and understand. Isn't that alarming? Evidently, in this push-button age, as man's vision of modern lifestyle ascends, his traditional values, social ethics, civic consciousness, and love for God, fellow men and the environment descend. Man has become too dependent on machines that he became indolent, unproductive and useless without his inventions. His lofty quest for material possession, fame and power has made him self-centered, insensitive, and apathetic. With the unregulated influx of unclassified information though the Internet, newspapers and televisions, his traditional family values have been re-defined and distorted. Humanity's greed for power and wealth has caused the increase of the incidence of crimes and conflicts between and among peoples and nations. The exploitation of the environment threatens debilitating effects on man's survival. Modernization has indeed empowered man to utilize Earth's resources at a faster rate but slower than they can be replaced for the use of the next race.

Ladies and gentlemen, these realities are the challenges of the new age. To effectively face them, we must judiciously envision such changes and bring about tomorrow's solutions to the problems of today. Is it not that His Holiness Pope John Paul II once said that we urgently need a new vision of global progress and solidarity that includes overall and sustainable development of society? Moral and environmental decay should not then be the price we pay for the fruits of progress and prosperity. As we continue to break frontiers in search of novel concepts and better methodologies in re-shaping humanity and mankind, our visions and values should then be in parallel with the demands of a vastly modernized and highly technological society. Modern development should not mean amassing of wealth and self-aggrandizement. Instead, it should be an opportunity for service to others and a time for advancement of international understanding, brotherhood, camaraderie, goodwill and peace. In building a better world for mankind, let us be potent catalyst for change and social reforms. To quote Winston Churchill's words, "Let us preach what we practice - let us practice what we preach."

Friends, the menace to mankind can be wiped-out if we steadfastly preserve our values system. Inescapably, as change and social growth are inevitable, man should not be influenced or saturated with the perverted values that sprout in the modern age. The gains of technological boost should not loosen the moral fibers of society or cause the decay of the environment or weaken the foundation of peace and understanding between and among nations. As citizens of the world, we have the responsibility to preserve the gains of the present for the benefit of tomorrow's race.

Yes, indeed! As we continue to move the wheels of progress and modernization for mankind, you and I should not go where the path leads to the abyss of doom and darkness, rather, we should go where there is no path and blaze a trail of renewed hope and new beginning. This is the challenge to mankind TODAY! Our answer is our gift to the FUTURE!

those practice days were really restless. day after another we have to stay back in school for practicing this speech. i remember when i was reciting this speech in front of my teacher for the first time, their comment was i was just reading it. so we had those practices which molded me. everytime we practiced, i gained more confidence. this confidence helped me to reshape my shy factor. i got the second place for this speech and i am so proud of it because about eight students in our class auditioned for this speech and i am so glad they gave it to me.

ten months

ten months. this is the title of my blog for these are the number of months that me and my friends can share our time for one last school year. sooner, we have to live our lives walking in the streets of manila, california, jakarta, and new delhi. sometimes, i wonder, what college life would mean to us? what kind of friendship can college create like what we have now? we may be the worst class ever but we do love each other. our batch suffered many trials but still we are strong to face those obstacles together. now, another obstacle that we should take is to leave our hearts within one another after ten months.

this morning, i received a SMS message from Uvelle. it predicts about college life when you start to hangout with another group of college friends. then one day, you see each other again and there the drama goes... here is what the text says...

journey bugs

yesterday, i went to the beach with darell. we invited sadek to go with us but he slept. so when me and darell reached the beach, we saw some friends. friends who i didn't see for a long time. it was like a reunion even though we were few. i saw uvelle, ryan, marvin, ate bianca, ate roxy, with kuya joel, karl, and jan andre... along with the were kaiser and one more guy... i forgot his name. uvelle's physical appearance really changed. she became sexy and thin... hehehe. but her attitude is still the same... the same uvelle who i met before. marvin grew tall... ryan is too silent. he's not even talking to me. i don't know what happened to him. hehehehe. but he grew tall too. ate bianca, fresh from the united states of america is still the same. no changes... ate roxy... the same girl who always smiles... hehehe... cheerful... we had some talks with uvelle for about one hour then we packed the things and set out for another journey.

after the beach, we went walking to marina mall. marinal mall is across the beach... yep... too far... we went walking in the stepping stones. each with his own partner. i was with uvelle. we were talking about stuffs that i experienced during vacation and her memories in the philippines and back here in uae. uvelle, for me is one of the bravest girl. her life can be compared to a soap opera. so while walking we took pictures with darell and ate bianca... while taking pictures, darell didn't notice that the case of his camera fell down into the stepping stones. it was too dark to find it so we just went ahead. finally, we reached marina mall... we rested for about fifteen minutes and after that some of them went home. me and darell went back to the stepping stones to find his camera case... luck dominated and we found it. we saw some cute kittens too when we found it. hehehe. they were so cute.

we went back to darell's house and changed our shirt and fixed ourselves. who wouldn't be smelly and sweaty in a humid weather. after that, we went to the internet cafe in liwa center... thirty minutes internet and we finally went home...

the game

i watched another episode of the amazing race yesterday... yey!!! now i know why the call it amazing race for it amazes people... like me. hehehehe. after the show, i called up lavinia and we talked about the scenes that was unbeatable... incredible comedians... hehehe... that is what i mean. a man was punting the boat and he fell in water. and again it happened. and again it did happen. two people arrived early at the bus station and they rested... hmmm... i guess they want to warm up after their tiring flight from mexico to england. hehehe. a man let her wife do the olympic sports that the english people plays. a team went for a fast forward but ended up to be eliminated.

next, we continued the game we were playing the other day. it was song guess... we will actually say some lines that are included in the song and after we will have to guess the title of the song. after that number guess. hehehe.... just guess the number that we are thinking.... oh well... today is another day. another boring day. i have to catch up with Search for the Star in a Million later. hehehehe. one of ABS-CBN's show i enjoy watching.

"i'm sorry"

finally, last week PGMA finally faced national television to admit her mistake during the 2004 elections. still, she refuses to resign as president. still, people are going on rally. lately, many of her adminitration bodies are asking her to resign. but still... she doesn't want to... "take your grievances to the congress" says Gloria to the people who are asking her to resign. former president cory aquino, senate president franklin drilon, and many more officials are asking for her resignation as a supreme sacrifice.

for me, even though she said sorry i don't think that it is enough for she lied to the people as susan roces said "she has stolen the presidency not once but twice..." if she is truly sorry then she have to face the consequences and that consequence is for her to RESIGN as president of the philippines. straight to the point! in my own opinion what she did was a big mistake and she is just saying sorry... what if a criminal kills... he'll just say sorry so that the police will free him... his reason: "the president said sorry so... why can't i?"... that's for my own opinion... how bout your opinion... "hello garci"

the school

yesterday, i went to school because they called up in our house for a meeting. i won't state the agenda and the happenings in the meeting bacause it is a private conversation between the school, the parents, and their students like me. but anyway... there are great changes in our school... they painted the gate and ofcourse fixed it... now there is no eerie sounds from it when you close or open it... not like before... the doors are now bright for they painted it... the railings too... finally, we have our chem. lab... we had it but it lacked facilities and now we have it... yey... hehehe... the chemistry lab is now located in the computer room and the comp. room is now in kg 2 room... cool changes.

music is really dominating my mind these days. why? maybe it's because the new alternative and acoustic songs i hear are really great. and most of them are from the bands made freshly from philippines. why should i use the word fresh??? hehehe. maybe it's because it is the first time i am considering songs made from philippines. i also hear new songs that really amazes me even though they are old. in my computer i have about 300 songs. some of them are love songs, rock, pop, and my two top favorites alternatives and acoustics. and now i'll be writing two taglines from some songs in my computer that i keep on playing everytime i turn on my computer...
